HOW TO KEEP YOUR REAL ESTATE BLOG UPDATED
Having a blog is one thing. But now you need to keep it up to date. Before you get stuck into your project, take a little time to think about what you are doing and why. Then the rest will come a lot more easily.
WHAT’S YOUR NICHE?
Obviously, you are writing about real estate. So are thousands of others out there. Before you even think about starting your first blog, you need to identify what angle you are going for and, for that matter, your style.
Is this going to be a light-hearted blog? Mainly serious? Are you aiming at a certain sector of the property market?
The way you market a luxury blog is different to the way you would write for a first-time buyer, for example.
PICK A TIME TO WRITE
Decide on the time of day that you want to compose your pieces. This doesn’t always have to be the same time that you publish them. In fact, it might be beneficial to leave a short gap between writing and publishing, for you to edit them in.
You also need to decide how many blogs a week you want to write. It needs to be updated at least once a week, but the more you update it, the more successful it is likely to be.
Try and be consistent and add the same number of blogs every week. So if you have a splurge of ideas one week, hold them back for publication later.
DECIDE WHAT YOU ARE ALL ABOUT
Think about the topics and areas which you are the most interested in and then hone down on them.
Become an expert (you should be doing this anyway!) in your area.
Establishing yourself as an authority on whichever angle or niche it is you are setting yourself up to write about, is the best way to gain both readers and customers.
Remember, social media is social. Don’t only write in your blog. Respond to other blogs on the subject and help people who have questions on the subject.
KNOW YOUR AUDIENCE
Before you set yourself up as an expert, you need to know your audience in depth.
This way, you will know the sorts of topics and themes they might be interested in.
If you’re not sure, read other blogs and see what questions and queries are coming up. These could be ideas for your blogs.
HOW WILL YOU HANDLE COMMENTS?
Decide in advance how you will deal with comments on your blog. Do you want to enable them? Will you only publish them after reviewing them?
Think about how you will respond to negative comments. Remember, never to engage in any unseemly behavior online. Even if you disagree, remain polite at all times.
LOOK AT THE CALENDAR
Inevitably, you will run out of ideas for blogs about real estate. This is when it pays to look ahead and plan the future.
See what holidays and other events are on the horizon.
Think about what you might write about for occasions such as Mother’s Day, Christmas and Halloween.
Don’t let a notable holiday or even season pass, without remembering to frame a blog around it – people like themes.
